MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Monthly Meeting. Tho Monthly meeting of above was held last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. P. Sicoly), Ors. Little, Read, Sutcliffe, McEklownoy and Grove. Correspondence was received—- ’ Prom P. L. Young, again expressing surprise at being charged for water supply.—The dork reported that payment had been made for one connection only. Tho account sent was for second connection. —Council was of opinion, after referring to previous records, that the cheque of £l3 tendered by Mr Young some time ago relieved him of all liability for use of water to that date.—lt was decided to charge for second counec- - tiou from date of last payment to the time the second connection was exit off. Prom manager Opera House, reporting that £8 7s in fees had been collected during the month.—Cr. McEldowney urged that the fixed charges for use of Opera House be adhered to and recommended that a uniform charge at a reduced rate be made to all churches requiring the use of the Opera House. When speaking on this matter at tho last meeting it was made to appear that only one church was referred to, but ho desired that all churches be similarly treated, and a reduced foe could be fixed by Council. Prom Pouudkeepcr, reporting that 13 head of cattle had been impounded during tho mouth. g Prom J. Wales, offering ins services as bill poster at 7s per company and £3 10s per annum for Nelson, Moate’s bills. —Referred to the
Mayor to deal with. From same, asking Council to pay him Is per hour when employed by Council. —Resolved that in future all casual labour bo paid at the rate of Is per hour. _ Prom Ratepayers’ Association, forwarding copy of resolution passed at last meeting recommending Council tj defer the question of increase of salary to gas manager. From District High School, asking Council to appoint a member to the Technical School Committee. —Referred to new Council.
Prom G. P. Bishop, thanking Council for remitting Ills share of cost of laying gas and water connections, also asking Council to metal a short piece of road to his gate.—lnspectors for month instructed to have work carried out.
! Prom A. W. Woolley, asking permission to cart earth- from right hand side of Wanganui road for fil-ling-in purposes.—Left with inspectors for mouth to deal with. From Boot’), McDonald and Co., stating a representative would visit Marton and adjust matters in connection with new water cart and suggesting Council use care iu tho meantime.—Received. ■ From Borough Valuer (Mr R. Woodhouse) reporting that valuation for year 1907-8 had been completed ftud. shows an increased annual value of about £630 which will bring in an 1 increased revenue iu rates of nearly £IOO. Two objections had been lodged and would he heard on April 11th next. Prom. Raugitikei County Council, stating that Bond street on north boundary must he vested in the Borough. j. 0 iUUS. It was decided to close ’the Council offices from Friday to Tuesday, inillusive; for the Easter holidays. ■■ The appointment of a representative to the Wanganui Hospital Board was held over for the incoming Council.
“ (jrs. Read and Little were appointed Inspectors for the month. ■ The Treasurer reported that receipts during the month amounted to £331 17s 4d. Accounts and salaries passed for payment totalled £6GI 18s fd, bringing the debit balance up to £2511 13s Bd.
” The Gas Manager’s application for increase iu salary was discussed at some length, and a motion passed that no increase should hs made at present.
