The Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last night declined permission to- the Christchurch Cycliug and Motor Club, Ltd, to place three amateur running events on the Good Friday programme. The secretary had told the secretary of the motor club that permission would probably be granted. On tbe strength of this the events were advertised. In the discussion on the motion to grant permission strong objection was made to any sports being hold on Good Fri ■ fey,/which, hhp clnriimau'said, Was the ' holiest day iu the" year. The voting was five against permission and tiiree in favour of it.
