COLLISION IN AUCKLAND HARBOUR.
Per Press Association. Auckland, March 26. An exciting incident occurred in tho harbour shortly after eight last eveuiug. Tho Northern Company’s steamer Rotomahaua, inward bound from Thames and Dovonport, and tho ferry steamer Kestrel, hound for North Shore, collided off the end of the railway wharf. The impact was so severe that it was heard from adjoining wharves. For a short while somewhat'of a panic occurred on board., 'the: Kestrel,' ..which was carrying a Urge' number of passengers! As tho vessels cleared each other the calmer counsels of the master of the Kestrel, and those passengers, who kept their heads, prevailed and quietness was soon restored. Both Captain Stephenson, of the Rotomahaua, pud Captain Scott, of the ‘ Kestrel, when'seep last night, declined to make any statements, preferring to do that at tho inquiry which will be held by the Customs authorities.
