SOCIAL AT APITI.

A valedictory social was tendered to Mr and Mrs B- A. Miller prior to their departure to Nelson. Mr Miller has been secretary of the Apiti Dairy ■Company for-nearly twelve years and the many valuable services he rendered in that capacity gained foyliim the respect and esteem, of all the settles. With her charming manner and beautiful voice Mrs Miller endeared herself to the people of Apiti. On behalf of the settlers Mrs H. Osborne presented Mrs Miller with a gold watch and Mr Miller was the recipient of a gold albert. Among the various speakers, all of whom spoke in eulogistic terms of the valuable help Mr and Mrs Miller had been to the district, were Messrs Osborne, E. Nix, W. Watson, F. S. Guy, G. Field, J, Gould, Dr. Gregory, H. Bennett and Martin. Mr G. Field thanked the donors and speakers oh behalf of the recipients. , Vocal and instrumental items were given by Dr, Gregory, Sirs Matthew, Mrs Miller, Miss Robertson, Miss Ross, Messrs ■J. Rale, W. James, H. Stephens, O. Hayward, B, Guy, Misses Lily Guy and Gill (3) and J. Decko. A hearty vote ofi thanks was passed to the ladies for providing refreshments Mr Miller and familyiwiil spend a month’s j holiday at Now Plymouth before j settling in Nelson,
