THE BESSES O’ TH’ BARN BAND.
The Royal Besses o 1 th ? Barn Band arrived by tho midday train. This afternoon's concert commences at .3, wlien a very attractive programme is to be given under the celebrated conductor, Mr- Alex. Owen, the opening number being v. march specially composed by Mr Owen cad dedicated to N.Z. bandsmen entitled " Zoalandia." Other items will be selected from the following :—" Poet and Peasant," .overture (Suppe) ; cornet solo ". (Demare), by Mr T. G. Moore ; selection ""Rossini's Works,', arranged by Mr Owen ; fantasia on English airs (Jackson); waltz, "Marguerite" (Godfrey) ; selection, "Pirates of Penzance" (Sullivan) ; selection "Songs of Scotland" (Round.) The directors announce that only two entrances to tho Pavk will be utilised, viz., Main Gate for Grounds ticket holders (2), and Church Gate for reserved enclosure ticket holders,' (extra shilling 1 .) This evening at 8 p.m. at the Town Hall, (box plan and day sale at Mogridge's) a second concert will bo given, when the finer brandies of tho Besses Band will be heard in some excellent solo work. The following is tho evening programme :—March "Australasian" (Rimmor) ; overture "Bohemian Gu-]" (R.-Ui'e) ; trombone solo "Flight of Ages " (Bevaii) Ly Mr T. Bowling ; selection "Taunhauser" (Wrtguer), the Bosses' mastorpicce ; waltz "Casino Tanze" (Gung'l) ; selection, "The Geisha" (Jones) ; Intermezzo "Oavalleria Rusticana" (Mascagni) ; fantasia "Gems of Scotia" (Vomer). Tho excellent numbers played as only the Besses can render them, with encore . numbers which will no doubt include some of the simple hymn tunes for which the Besses are famous.. The performance will long bo remembered by all those . who, are fortunate enough to be present.
