NATIVE LANDS.
Press Association. Wellington, March 19. The Chief Justice, interviewed regarding tho work of the Native Laud Commission, stated that it had investigated an area comprising many blocks, amounting in all to 131,000 acres, almost all in Hawke’s Bay. Tho Commission had prepared reports on all blocks, and hope to forward them to tho Governor on Wednesday or Thursday. So far they had reserved 25,000 acres for commercial purposes, 13,000 acres for individuals for farming purposes, 35,000 acres for leasing to natives, while tho laud available for general settlement, leaving out Wairaarama, would be about 20,000 acres. If Parliament sanctioned tho recommendations of tho .Commission considerable Maori and European settlement would follow.
