KIWITEA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was held on Saturday. Present —Crs. Carman (chairman), Short, Guthrie, Bruce, Fowler, MeNeal, Mclntyrc and Hockley. Correspondence was read— From C. London, applying for a renowal of his lease of gravel reserve. —Crrautod at 10s Od per annum.
From Department of Agriculture, statins that Inspectors had been instruetd to visit localities m which noxious weeds were growing.—The Chairman said he liad seen Inspectors and steps were being taken to eradicate weeds.
From W. A. Sandilands, forwarding cheque for rates collected. —The Clerk reported that all rates, except some small town sections, owners of which could not bo found, had been got in.—Tho Chairman congratulated the Clerk upon having a clean sheet. From Treasury, notifying payment to Council's credit of £250 for metaling roads in Sandon Block, £'3oo for metalling Peka road. SloOO for formation and bridging Kawhatau road and £IBB for Mangamahu road. From Department of Roads, stating in reference to erection of a bridge over London's ford, that W. S. Short had been appointed to hold ian inquiry.—Resolved to recommend that the inquiry bo held at Kimbolton.
From Jacob Shapleski and Brothers, asking that all money becoming duo to J. Shapleski, jun., on contract 32 be paid to Bank of New Zealand to his credit.—Order accepted. From Waipuru School Committee, asking that approach to school bo metalled.—Granted, at a cost of 21s, From T. Midgley, offering 30s foe short lengths of totara near Mangaweka bridge.—Accepted. From G. Watt, drawing attention to need of a long cutting, Peep-o'-Day road.—Referred to Engineer. From W. J. Eames, asking permission to fenco across streets in Livingstone township.—Granted, conditionally that he pays a rent of £2 per annum and that the access of any resident is not interfered with. -
From A. Pole, Ruahino, asking permission to erect a gato on Cross road.

The Engineer reported that no tenders for three contracts had been received owing to the fact that contractors in the county were fully occupied. Tho District Engineer had agreed with him as to the length of spars for the Marton Block Bridge and the only question to deoido was as to whether the piers shall bo pile cylinders or concrete, and that depended upon tho depth of papa. The cost of the bridge would bo about .£2OOO. He had surveyed about 50 chains of the Umutoi road and when the plans were roturnod from Wellington the work could be advertised. Ho had also forwarded to "Wellington specifications for metalling Peka road, tho loan for which would bo available shortly. It was resolved—
That the Engineer's recommendation to extend the contracts of Hangitikei road south and east as far as the money in hand will allow, be adopted.' That, tho Engineer bo authorised to have necessary work done to ascertain depth of papa at Marton Block Bridge.
That the thanks oi the Council be tendered to Messrs Gorringe Bros, for their cii'cr to allow gravel to bo taken from their land for Kawhatau road. That fresh tenders be called for maintenance metal on Ohragaiti, Peruberton and Peka roads. That tho Council office-s be closed on the date of the visit of tho Eesses o' th' Barn Band to Fcilding. That the Engineer bo instructed to call for tenders for erection of tho Papanui Bridge. That a warrant bo applied for in terms of the agreement with the Pohaugina County Council to raise a loan over the County of £GOO for erection of Marton Block Eridgo, on the Pohaugina CO. satisfying tins Council that tho Pohaugina Council is raising the same amount without delay, and that any extra amount that may bo required' bd raised Sin equal proportions by settlers' specially benefited in each County a special rating area being declared iu each. County for this purpose. That the Engineer have the pound site at Rangiwahia fenced and a suit: able shed erected. That the executors of the late C. G Tricker bo offered a renewal of lease of section 73, block 1, Apiti S.D.','a| a rental of £1 per annum. Messrs Kilgour ; waited on tho Council and requested that the construction of Coulter's road be pushed on with. —The Chairman told the deputation that with the advice of the Engineer the Council would have the work done as soon as possible. Applications for the position of County Soicitor-were considered in Committee, and Mr A. G. Carty was appointed. Messrs Jackson and Anderson, the Chairman and Secretary of the Kimbolton Rabbit Committee, waited upon the Council and asked that" rabbit dogs, to an ■unlimited number, should bo taxed the same as sheep dogs,'■ 3s Gd per head.—The Chairman said ho >. r as opposed to owering the tax on unlimited numbers.
It was pointed out that the employees of each farmer may each register two rabbit dogs as well as the farmer. Probably this fact had been overlooked by tho. Rabbit Committeo.
It was resolved, on the motion of Qr. Guthrie, seconded by Cr. Hockley, that for the present year this Council, cannot ' increase tho limit for rabbit" dogs, but will be pleased to receive and favourably consider any suggestion tho Rabbit Committees may make on the subject drawing up conditions for dog tax for next year. That tenders bo. invited for "new culvert , and creek diversion on Perry's road, cost of same to be divided between tho Kiwitea and Cheltenham Ridings. Tenders to closo next'meeting.
That J. Woods be appointed temporary foreman. Time endors to close on Wednesday, 3rd April, be called for Coulter's liue.Peka road metalling, and Umutoi road formation, opening of tenders to be left to Crs. Morton, Guthrie, and the Engineer.
