MANGAWEKA NOTES.

The timber for tho ladies’ waiting room, etc., in connection with the public library, is being ordered, and the erection of the building will soon be commenced. The new addition to the library is to be erected as a memorial to the late Mr Seddon. The usual -half-yearly competition for a belt,presented to the Rifle Club by Mr - Georgettf, was fired off yesterday. ‘ Rifleman Baft topped tho list with 27 at 500 yards and 2G at 700, Rifleman Joimstou being runner up. , .. A dead sheep lying on the roadside was tho cause of an accident to Mr P. Clements yesterday. His horse took fright and swerved over_ Jhe bank, damaging tho gig considerably. Business at tho S.M. Court was very quiet yesterday, Mr Thomson having only a couple of trifling cases to hear. On 'Wednesday, 20th instant, the Maugaweka school cadets are leaving here for the Exhibition City to go into camp there. Mr Jackson, head master of this school, is in charge of a company formed in the district. Tiie boys will no doubt give a good account of themselves. After a sojourn in the Lakes District of about five or six weeks, Mr and Mrs Hammond, of Kawatau, returned yesterday. The trip vras made ou Mrs Hammond’s behalf, who has been suffering scverelygfrom rheumatism, aud I am pleased to report a wonderful improvement in her health. Mr O. F. McCartney, who has been under tho doctors in Auckland aud Rotorua, for au injury to his back, lias also returned greatly benefited, although not strong enough to do any heavy lifting at present. _
