The Crimes Act

Nationalists in the House of Commons denounced tho Crimes Act as a violation of the constitution, and moved that it be repealed. Mr Birrell, Chief Secretary for Ireland, said Government and most of the Liberal party were pledged to use every reasonable opportunity to repeal the Act, though he doubted if an opportunity would occur in tbe present session. Meanwhile the Act would be treated as practically dead.A motion to proceed to the next business was carried by 252 to 88.
