Wool Sales
A Firm Market
Press Association—Copyright. London, March 13. Tho wool sales have opened. 12,623 bales were catalogued. There was a capital selection of crossbreds. There was a largo attendance of buyers, all sections competing freely. Everything was very firm. Coarsest crossbreds and stylish parcels of other grades advanced 6 per cent. There was strong competition for all merinos which were at par to 5 per cent advance. Stdney, March 13. Tho wool sales closed steadying.. The : top price for greasy was llj-d, scoured | 23.;d. London, March 13. Wool was animated at opening rates. ! American and Continental buyers are j purchasing Merinos and fine crossbreds. Messrs Murray, Roberta &. I Messrs Todd & Douglass, Dunedin, report under dato March 11th : Chits.—-Bright Gartons 2s 9d to 2s 9 , .d, bright Sparrowbills 2s 8-|d to 2a Od, Duna 2s lljd. Old oats are exhausted. The Southland crop is coming on to the market in very small quantities, and anything offering -is picked up at &n advance on last week's rates. All merchants are completely out of supplies. We don't think there ia much chance of cheaper oats for 1 soma time to come. Milling wheat.—Tuscan 3s 6d to Ss Btf, velvet (scarce) 3s Cd to 3s Bd, and Hunter's 3s 6d to 3s 7d, f.o.b. There 1 is good demand and prices remain firm. 3s 9d to ss. Fowl wheat.—Good whole 3s 4d f.o.b.s.i. There is better enquiry this week. Stocks ere scarce and owing to the favorable harvest weather there will not be so much fowl wheat this year as usual. Peas.—Blue 4s 9d to 'ss, Partridge is 9d to sb, f.o.b.si. The new crop has been having a great run, and the market is expected to advance. I Barley.—Feed quality 2s l)d to 3s 1 f.o.b.si., and scarce. i Ilyeeoru.—Good demand from the \ ::'juth Island, but stocks are exhausted. I 13 ran, 80s net, for Auckland ship- ' ;,ii»rit. Imported seed (to arrive) 28-30ib 4s 9d to s*, 2G-71b 4s 5d to 4s 7d, 23251 b4s3d to 4s sd. The market is still strong and very little seed is now being offered by farmers. Italian.—Well marked quality 5s 3d to 5a (3d, medium quality 4s Bdto 5s Id, I f.o.b. Very strong demand for good I seeds.. j Cocksfoot.—Machine dressed (new I crop) 17ib old to o-JJ, 16lb sid to s}d, derm undressed J3-14lb 4VI to ' 4ifd. Rough seed for surface sowing !21 to -id. and in strong demand. Very 1 little undressed seed now offering from the Peninsula, and merchants are strong buyers. Chewings Fescue. —New crop undressed seed od to s\d., machine dressed Od to G}<l, f.o.b. Glovers. —Imported white 67s to 755, exira choice 80s, lower grades 50s to 55 : - Colonial white : Best quality 80s to 90s, medium to good 55s to 67s 6d. | Cowgrass: Choice colonial 82s to 80s, medium 75s to 82s, imported 60s to 72s t;i!. Timothy: Imported 35s to 403, colonial 35s to 455. Crested dogstaii: Imported 100 s to 105 s, colonial 100 s to 112's, Suckling 15s to 30s. Clover seed for surface 21 to 41 per lb. A good deal of business is doing, particularly in Colonial covrgrass and white clover, the Canterbury crops of which are expected to be rerj poor.
Stock Market.
Messrs Abraham and "\Villiams held their Taihapo sale on Wednesday, •when a full yarding of both sheep and cattle caino forward. The demand for sheep was very good, but the bidding for cattle of all classes way dull. Quotations: Two tooth owes £1 0s Cd, s.an. ewes 7s to 13s, cull ewes 3s to 6s Gd, f.m. ewes Ss lOd to 15s, ewe lambs lis 7d, mixed lambs 7s to 10s lid. Messrs Abraham and Williams held their Htmterville sale on Tuesday, when exceptionally large yardings of both sheep and cattle camo forward. Prices were slightly easier. Sheep: 2 tooth ewes 14s Od to 18s 2d, wethers 13s ;3d, f.f.in. ewes 8s Id to 9s 6d, cull ewes 3s to 7s, lambs 8s 4d to 10s Id. Cattle : Empty heifers 33s Gd, weaners 14s to 17s Gd.fat cows £3 to £4 2s Gd, forward cows £3 4s, 2% to 3 year steers £2 13s Gd.
