AN EDUCATIONAL SQUABBLE.
* Press Association,
'■'■ Nattf.b, March 12. . • There was something of a deadlock at the Education Board meeting ori Monday; owing to the.chairman tilling outanbtice of motion questioning hi 3 action for signing the minutes at a previous meeting without these having been confirmed by the Board. The chairman contended that ho was quite within his rights in so doing, and, when a member objected-to the minute of the last meeting being confirmed, as .the notice of motion had been omitted, the'chairman asjain declared the minutes confirmed and signed them. Later some friction arose between the chairman and several members respecting a motion to add to the list of the teachers, whose names were to be submitted for approval to the Hastings School Committee for the position of headmaster of the school there the name of a teacher, who, two months ago, received an appointment to another school. The chairman explained that under the Board's regulations the teacher in question could not be appointed as he had" held his present position twelve months. Some members held that the regulations permitted the appointment under special conditions, and maintained that it was for the Board to decide what might be considered special conditions. After some acrimonious talk between the chairman and some of the members, five of the latter left the :>room, one of them tendering his'resignation as from the close of the meeting. It was announced that probably other members would resign.
