MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting of above was held last evening. Present: —The Mayor (Mr J. P. Sicely), Crs. Sutcliffe, Little, Moßldowuey, Grove, Dommett and Read. The petition of residents on Pukepapa Road, asking water mains be extended, was granted on/tlie motion of the Mayor, seconded by Or. Dommett. *

Messrs Zajonskowski Bros.’ application for water in Russell Street was granted. It was resolved that Mr Hiuks be offered contract for delivery of 200 yards of metal at his original offer. The question of taking over Bond Street extension was held over till next meeting. Or. Little supported an application for a rebate of rent of Town Hall on the occasion of the performance in aid of St. Francis Church. It was agreed to reduce the charge to 30s. Or. McEldowney urged that in future the fixed scale of charges be adhered to. The Gas Committee’s recommendations were adopted as follows —That Mr Oldfield’s tender for coal carting from station to gas works at Is per ton be accepted.—That roof of coal shed be raised as suggested by Gas Manager.—-That a pipe-screwing machine be ordered. —That five tons of coal at sos per ton bo ordered from Sydney.—That 250 copies of Gas Progress Magazine bo ordered and distributed amongst consumers free. —That main be laid in Blackwell “Street from High Street to Morris Street. —That main in Bowen Street he extended to supply Mr A. Brown’s gas engine. —That consumers using gas for power be charged nett prices per 1000 feet as follows if paid by 15th of month ; —IO,OOO feet Os 3d per thousand, 15.000 feet 5s lOd per thonaud, 20.000 5s 5d per thousand.—That a 20.000 foot-spiral gasholder prepared for telescoping ho ordered, provided a loan is authorised by ratepayers. That the Council pay casual employees engaged in laying gas mains 8s per day.
