h.2. v. M.C.& Second test Match. j i A Win for N.Z. i - -i Per Press Association. I "" Wellington, March 11. X New Zealand won the second test match by 56 runs. Their second innings was finished off for 249, Williams carrying his bat for 72, which net only made him top scorer, but gave him best average against the visitors. This left the M.C.C. 255 1o 2 getj and they never looked like obtaining < them at any stage of the game. Both 1 Fisher and Upham bowled so well at the 1 start that 40 minutes were occupied making no runs, and before that occurred three wickets had fallen. Douglas and Page put on 40, but never collared the bowling, and with greatly improved,, fielding things continued to go well for the colonials. Catching in particular was_ sure, and a running catch by Sale that disposed of Burns off what looked like a safe hit was phenomenal. Nine wickets fell for 157, and then Curwen and May, having nothing to hope for, ran for everything and for a while bustled the fieldsmen into something like disorganisation. Many of their short runs should have been*stopped, but they went oh merrily, each over being expected to finish the game. However, they rattled up 41 in little over 20 minutes, when Fisher made a good catch off his own bowling and the defeat at Christchurch was wiped out. The attendance was small and the wicket played much the same as on Saturday. The Council' officials complain of small receipts on Saturday compared with the number of people on the ground, and of playing no more matches here till some provision is made to prevent people clambering over the fences.
