ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Press Association Auckland, March 11. A middle-aged woman named Annie Florov committed suicide by hanging herself from tho corner of a door at her residence, Newtown road. Apparently the had stood on a chair, placed the rope around her neck, fastened it to tho corner of the door and then jumped off the chair. At tho inquest held yesterday the jury returned a verdict of suicide while of unsound mind.

A young married man lip Edward Sallon is said to nave attempted suicide yesterday at his resiouco, Ponsoby. Sallon has not long been married and had some trouble with his wife aud to frighten her is alleged to have taken some corrosive acid. His condition is not serious. He lias been placed under arrest.

Two engineers named Petersen aud Pritchard, [employed by Messrs Niven and Co., of Napier, to erect a lift in Abraham and Williams’ store hero this morning had a narrow escape. The fell a distance of ten feet while being tested and while both men were on board. Pritchard was not seriously hurt but Petersen sustained cuts about the head by a barrel rolling on him from the lift as ho la ouy the ground. Gisborne. March 11.

Tiie tlireo-year-old son of W. Paltridgo was drowned in a well at his grandparent’s residence, yesterday afternoon. The child was missed only a few minutes aud was promptly rescued from the water, but efforts to resuscitate proved fruitless. _ A bruise on the forehead, indicating that ho had struck the side of the wall in falling.
