Messenger boys hare recently been introduced into Berlin, and are a great success. The Pan-German “ Deutsche Pages Zeitung '' is annoyed at this, and on & recent evening came out with | a long leading article, in specially large print, in which it proclaims its vexation to the world. ) The Pages Zeitung is annoyed, firstly, because the English dcsignation, “messenger boys,” is used, and because the boys are clad in uniform and military cap “ Hk® Tommy AtIt is annoyed, secondly, because these circumstances have largely contributed towards making the messenger boys in Berlin a success. The Pan-German organ see* in all this another serious symptom of national weakness of the Germans, which finds expression in a slavish imitation of other people, and which has often enough had serious political consequences. It implores the Germans to cherish in small things as well as in great the love of home and pride in their own manners and customs, and then it | adds: “ We, too, shall Have a national pride and native peculiarities of outward forms, worthy of a great, mature, civilised nation.”
