A Disputed Point.
Sir, —The Mayor stated at the meeting on Monday evening last that I got the vote for raising tire dam iu creased from £25 to £SO. There is nothing to bo ashamed of even had I done so, and my only reason for denying it was that it was not true. The Mayor also said the minutes would prove it. Now, I have devoted the greater part of yesterday afternoon and this morniug ,to reading the minute book carefully through from the first meeting in May to the meeting last mouth, and can confidently say that there is nothing therein to warrant the Mayor’s statement “ that the minute book would prove it.” I now call upon him to withdraw this statement, or else to substantiate it, as this is not like his first statement, depending on my my word against his and his against mine, but is a statement that can bo proved from the minute book. If it is proved that the Mayor’s memory lias failed him iu making the last statement, viz., “ The minute hook would prove it, ” it is only natural to conclude that it failed him iu making the first statement also.—lam, etc., JAMES GROVE. Martou, March Cth.
