RIFLE SHOOTING.
The frentfcam f^e^ting. Per Press Association. Tbentham, March 5. ' It appears that the alteration of one o | ihu ec.rds in the Volunteers Match (A) today is of 'a more gewous nature than appeared at first blush.' From what can be I learned outside (the Council meet in private) it appears that some" competitors were Leccnlijig suspicious of the manner in which scores were being registered on at least one target, and it was at the expense of their own shooting that they kept an eye on those pi whom they had a suspicion. At 000 yards one of the men upon whom suspicion rested left the mound with his total at 33, and both his card and the blackboard showed this. Being challenged as to the correctness of these figures, tho competitor, who hails from the South Island, admitted that the correct score was 27, and his score was altered te that £ umber. The register keeper, who also -'cornea front iiie South, admits the correctness of tlies"core : (27J; and' he initialled the card to that effect. There are two (jtiter's implicated, and the matter will be discussed to-night by ihe Council. The members of the latter are reticent, but it is not improbable that those connected with the matter will be disqualified by the Association. Bapid firing, 200 yards, ten shots;—!
