The Daily Mail states that the explosion violently shook the entire area of Greater New York. One Italian was killed. He dropped some hot ashes on a case of dynamite which, igniting, spread to the magazine at the mouth of the tunnel containing a hundred tons of explosives. Hundreds of workmen in the tunnel had a marvellous escape. An enormous hole was torn in the ground and dozens of buildings were wrecked.
