THE FUTURE OF FIJI.

Press Association —Copyright. Sydney. March 5

At the Wesleyan Conference the Eev. Burton, of the Indian Mission, Fiji, stated that there were 30,000 Indians in Fiji, and they were increasing at the rate of 3000 annually, while the Fijian population -was decreasing at the rate of 2000 yearly. He feared that in 10 years Fiji would again bo a heathen country. There was no doubt the Pacific was being Orientalised by Hindoos, who were also getting a footing in the New Hebrides, New Britain and Samoa, and there wore no signs that the movement was likely to cease, Unless they made special efforts to save the situation the Crescent of Mahomet would displace the Cross of Christ in the Pacific.
