Sir T. Sutherland, in a letter to the Times, says he is not aware of any conspiracy against the mail project. If any of the .eminent shipbuilders who evolved the scheme, and who apparently know but little of Australian trade, care to see figures regarding tho working of 10,000-ton mail ships ho will give some startling information.
The Peninsular Company contemplate laying up some of their largest steamers for a considerable portion of tho year in preference to running costly ypyages to Australia. Melbourne, March 4
