Tho Brigg election, in which tho Conservatives gained a seat, was fought largely on tho tariff question. Sir 'Berkeley' Sheffield is a popular local landlord. Ho is doubtful of tho possibility of food taxation, but favours colonial preference. His opponent is a now convert to liberalism who has been defeated three times since the general election.
