Stock Market

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report as follows: —At Pohangina on Wednesday in spite of the wretched weather, most of the stock advertised turned up. There was Hot a very large attendance of buyers, but prices were good, and very little was sent out unsold. Quotations :—Sheen ; 2-tooth wethers 14s 6d, nWedb’- ewca 123 to 13a.jJd«&Ot'o : u eauors good 15s 6d, , ' LKn steers 30s, forward cows £2, fat and forward heifers £3 4s to h'3 7s Cd, springing heifors £4 2s Cd, cow and calf JE3 ss, 21-year steers £3 7s, 3-year bullocks £4 18s 6d, 4-year do £6 2a Od, bulls 255. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their usual weekly sale at Palmerston on Thursday, 21st February. A good entry of sheep came forward, consisting mostly of lambs. Well-grown rape lambs wore not in great demand on account of so many being in the market. On the other hand cull lambs were eagerly sought after for putting on stubble. Wo offered a line of cull two-tooth ewes which brought forth keen competition up to a price. Wo quote ! Pat lambs 11s 9d, 2-tooth wethers 15s 3d, cull 4 and 6-tooth ewes 13s 6d, do 2-tooth ewes 13s Id, do lambs 5s 9d to 7s sd.

Messrs Abraham and Williams report: —At Palmerston, on Thursday, we had a large entry of both sheep and cattle. Competition for sheep was not keen and several lines failed to reach the vendors’ reserves. Very little demand existed for lambs and prices were easier than last week. All classes of cattle sold well and with the exception of one line of bullocks we made a clearance. Quotations: —Good Jambs 8s 4d to 10s 6d, small lambs Ss to 6s 6d, 2-tooth ewes 16s 7d, 4 and B-yr owes 12s 4d, mixed age ewes 12s to 13s 6d, aged ewes 7s 6d to 10s Bd, fat and forward wethers 14s 7d, 2-tooth wethers 13s, 3-yr bullocks £5 7s, low-conditioned two and 3year bullocks .£3 11s to £4 los, 2-yr Hereford steers £2 lßs 6d, 18-months steers £2 Bs, low-conditioned 18-months steers 32s to £2, yearling steers 30s to 355, cows and calves 36s to £2 3s, fat cows £3 17s 6d to £i 13s, store cows 20s to 355, 2-yr heifers in calf 375, 18-months heifers 27s 6d to 355, yearling heifers 16s 6d to 20s. During the week wc have sold to a New South Wales buyer 100 Eomney Earns on account of Mr David Buick at 4gs. each, and 50 4-tooth Eomney ewes on account of Mr E. Tanner at 31 gs.

Fending Wool & Skin Sale.

Messrs A. H. Atkinson and Co. report; —At our monthly sale on Wednesday wo offered a fair catalogue comprising 45 bales and 250 bag lots of wool, 1500 skins, 300 hides, 16 casks and usual tin lots of tallow, also horsehair, bones, etc. There was a-good attendance of buyers. The wool was mostly of inferior quality and prices were abov.; -n a par with last sale. Skins (showed no change, with tho exception of pelts, which wore a little easier. Good classes of hides were slightly higher than last salo, but damaged sorts were neglected. Tallow sold exceptionally well. Quotations. —Wool: Medium crossbred 9d to 9jd, coarse SJ to 9d, oottod and dingy Bld to 81d, inferior and broken 7d to Bd, longwool Bld, black 71 to 73d, medium lambs bright condition lOd to. lOld, coarse 9d to 9|d, dingy 8d to 83d, seedy 43d to 73d, pieces 5d to 53d, locks 4:',d to 4jd, dirty locks 3d to ,3-ld, crutchings 6d. Skins: Medium crossbred (woolly) 83cl to 9cl, inferior 8d to Sd), broken 4d to 7fd, lambs 8d to Bld, inferior and broken 6d to 7id, pelts (good) 7d, inferior and damaged 5d to Old, dead 7id to Bd, inferior and damaged 5d to 7d, bntebers’ pelts 2s 8d to 3s 4d, do shorts 3s 6d to 4s 2d, butchers’ lambs woolly 3s to 3s 7d, do lambs pelts Is 3d to Is 6d. Hides: Medium os s.<d to s}d, light 5d no sjd, damaged 4d to 4}d, medium cow sfd to 55d, light 5d to 51 d, damaged 33 d to 43d, calf sjd to 6cl, damaged Id to 4d. Tallow: Butchers’ mixed £33 5s to £35 los per ton. In tins 20s 9d per cwt. Horsehair Is 2d per lb, bonesiSs per cwt.
