The New York correspondent of tne Times reports that under the law I allowing the Governor to take proofs of the efficiency of Btate officials Mr Hughes, Governor of New York Btate, created consternation among politicians and political oflics holders by summoning and publicly examining Mr Kelsey, State Insurance Superintendent, a man o! integrity and ability who had refused to I resign, preferring to rely on tha ! support of the friendly State Senate, f Kelsey, in reply to Hughes’ questions, j confessed ho had read tho Armstrong I insurance report only cursorily, and j made other admissions. Mr Hughes j recommended that the Senate dismiss 1 him.
