EDUCATION BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held last evening. Present: Messrs P. Pirani (Chairman), G. Carson, A. Fraser, G. H. Bennett, D. H. Guthrie, Purnell, J. Smith, and E, Dixon. A telegram was received from Mr Spurdle, apologising for hia unavoidable absence from the Board’s meeting.—Received, and leave of absence granted. The following resignations were received and accepted;—O. Reischer, Tapuae ; A. Small, relieving teacher; E. J. Patterson, Kaheke. The following resignations of students were accepted: E. Cartwright, Glen Oroua, and S. Gascoigne, Hurunui. The matter of filling the vacancies was referred to the Chairman end the Inspector. A letter was read from Mr H. W, Kiernan, formally acquainting the Board of the death of his daughter, formerly teacher at the Hinan school. On the motion of the Chairman it was resolved that the secretary write acknowledging the receipt of Mr Evernan’s letter, and conveying to him an expression of the Board’s sincere sympathy. R. 0. D. Lightbourne was granted extension of mid-winter leave; leave was granted with pay to M. Mac Donnell (South Makirikiri), D. M. Rookell (Livingstone), A. McDonald (Marton), and A. M. Carson (Feilding). Taoroa.—Mr Smith reported re site for residence.—Resolve! that - half an acre, with-24 chains frontage to mam road, be purchased for £lO. From Auckland Board re school at Eaurimu. —Mr Purnell to report on the matter.

Be weather vane for District High School, Marion. —Board does not supply. Architect to report re proposed alteration of building. H. W. Saunders’ appointment as adjutant* to 3rd Battalion Cadets agreed to. O whakura.—Mr H. Jarratt to be informed that Government does not make a grant for timber. Denlair. —A grant of £1 for £1 up to £4 made for metalling, ' Apiti.—Application for grant for shed referred to Building Committee. Taihape. —lnformation being obtained in connection with the proposed enlargement-of school. Feilding.—Board has no funds for tennis court.

Kairanga. Board recognises no further liability in regard to library. In re drainage required for B Ilham, Feilding, and Campbell street, the Department to be asked whether there is any possibility of getting a grant. South Makirikiri.—Grant of £1 for £1 to £5 for metalling. Turangarere.—Mr C. Mitchell appointed commissioner. Eesolved to apply for railway pass for Mr B. O, Jarrett, in connection with his voluntary work as instructor in breathing exercises. Warrengate.—Application for grant ' lor repairs granted. A number of minor applications wore referred to the. Building Committee, & considerable amount of routine business of no public interest was transacted, and at 10 p.m. the Board adjourned.
