ASTRONOMICAL.

Jupiter in the constellation Gemini, and just one degree below tho third magnitude variable star Eta Geminorum, becomes a brilliant obieot at a fair attitude in the north-west heavens soon after-sun-set. His motion among the small neighbouring stars is still retrograde, and will continue so until tho 26th inst., when ho roaches his second stationary point. The present time is favourable to seeing the eclipses of his larger satellites. These phenomena take place at some distance to the east of the plant, and are sufficiently removed from the brighwrays of Jupiter himself. Jupiter will be in quadrature with the sun on the 24th of March. He is now returning from his greatest north declination, and with every periodical apparition for some years, the planet will riso higher in tho sky. L. A. MacDonald, F.E.G,S.
