Harry Palmer and Co. reportWe had a splendid entry of pigs at our usual market sale hold on Saturday, in every instance the quality was first-class. There was a keen demand, especially for big stores and porkers, and prices in these lines show au increase on previous quotations. Only two linos of weaners were returned unsold, the owners’ values in these instances not coinciding with those of the the buyers. We quote —Small weaners 7s, 8s Cd, 9d; good do, 10s, 11s, 12s Gd, 14s Gd; slips, 14 to 2s ; stores £1 Is; to £1 ss; light porkers, £1 7s Gd to 32s Gd ; heavy, 32s to 355.
All lines of poultry sold well, pullets and prime table cockrels being in good demand at payable prices. Pullets, 4s 3d to 5s per pair, table cockrels, 4s to Gs Cd; hens, mixed sorts, 2a 5d to 3s; half-grown crockrels, 2s to 8s Gd; ducks, 3s 3d to 4s Gd; turkey hens, 3s Gd to 6s each ; gobblers, 5s to 9s Cd each. Over 200 oases of fruit were sold at the following average prices at per case: — Peaches, 101 b, 2s Gd, 241 b, 5s Gd to Gs ; nectarines, 101 b, 2s to 2s 6d, 241 b, 5s Gd; plums, 2s to 4s ; apples, Is to Gs per case, roughly, from Id to 2d per lb ; cucumbers, Is to 2s; tomatoes, 3a to 4s Cd; onions, |d to Id per lb ; 7s 1001 b bag. Bacon, rolled, 7d per lb; maize, 4s per bushel; potatoes, 5s to 7s percwt., cabbage, Is Gd to 2s per sack ; rabbits, Is.
The Stock Market.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Limited, report on their Jolmaonville sale as follows :—A small entry, mostly prime bullocks; the balance light plain steers. Beef made 21s, best bullocks £8 7a Gd to £S, lighter £7 10s to £7 17s Gd, plain £7 2s Gd. A fair yarding of sheep ; the ewes wore only plain; the wethers wore good quality. Ewes 13s to 14s 2d, wethers IGs Gd to 17s Id. Lambs (plain) lls to 11s 4d, shorn culls 4s 2d to 4s 3d.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., reportAt our Marton sale on Tuesday we had an exceptionally largo yarding of sheep, every available pen being occupied. For all round sheep the bidding was brisk and, with exception of two lots, a total clearance was effected. Good breeding ewes and lambs especially wore in demand. Wo had a fair entry of cattle. Fat and forward bullocks, and 2i-year steers sold well. We quote : —Sheep: 1000 4-year Lincoln owes 14s 6d, 4-year Romney owes 13s, 4 and C-tooth ewes 15s 7d, 2-tooth owes IBs 6d, fat ewes 13s 7d, f.f.m. owes 12s 6d to 15s 3d, sound-mouth ewes Us Cd, cull owes 5s to 10s, 2-tooth wethers 14s 4d, 4 and 6-tooth wethers 15s 6d, rape lambs good 10s Id to 10s 3d, store lambs Ss 4d to 9a, culls 5s to 5s 3d, f.m. rams up to £2 2s. Cattle : Fat cows £4 17s 6d to £,o (good quality), fat and forward bullocks £6 Is. 21-year steers, good sorts, .£1 4s. Pigs, weaners 10a to 16s. (From Our Own Correspondent). At the Loan and Mercantile Apiti sale on Tuesday there was a demand for good lambs. Old owes wore difficult to quit and 2-tcotb wethers wore neglected, the market in general dragging a little. Twotooth Komney rams were sold at £2, 6tooth at £2 10s, and full-mouth at £1 Ss. A couple of fresh full-mouth Lincoln rams sold at £1 10s. Culled lambs, small, sold at Bs 8d and 7s, better sorts Ss 7d to Pa od, fat do.lls, full-mouth ewes, poor, at 7s Id to 7s Bd, also at 10s 3d to 13s; There was a small yarding of cattle and bidding, in sympathy with outside sales, ■was slow, but a clearance was effected.
