TAIHAPE.
(From Our Opm Correspondent). At the Police Court on Saturday, Constable Baker had a trio of “ beauties ” before Mr J. P. Aldridge, J.P. John Casey, who pleaded guilty to having used obscene language, but asked for leniency, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. Patrick Brady was also charged'' with disorderly behaviour while drunk. He went to Beasely’s Eetreat for 14 days, and John Dyer: for a similar offence, got 7 days. A man was arrested on Saturday in a state of dead drunkenness on one of our streets, and, on being searched at the police station, was found to have £4i on him. He would have proved a nice haul for the vultures who are .always waiting for and lire on what they plunder from this class of unfortunates. A serious accident happened to Mr Heil Jacobsen on Friday at Messrs Anderson & Bennett’s mill in working the twin saw. Ho by some means got his head under the top saw, and had the back of his head laid open from ear to ear. The surgeon had to put in 15 stitches. The injury is a very serious one, and it is hard to say what the result maybe, but at the best it .will be some weeks before he will be able to resume his occupation; On Saturday afternoon wo experienced the heaviest rain we have had for some seasons. In fact, I donbt ,if the oldest resident can remember heavier rain. The culverts on Tui street were quickly blocked, and the water was soon in command of the streets till the obstruction was cleared. The timber for Utitu railway station is now on the ground, and it ia. understood that building operations will start at once.
