BUCK- JUMPING.

The Australian buck : jumping riders gave a splendid performance for the concluding night at Marton. Again there was a large attendance and the public was well satisfied with the novel form of entertainment. Such exhibitions of skill on the part of Australian riders led to emulation amongst the townspeople and others, and the sport “caught on” in Marton last evening. It was discovered thak'vthere are riders here who can give an exhibition of first-class horsemanship. Last night they showed how it was possible to Successfully ride tho famous buckjumpers Acrobat and Hastings Bob. ThH i<j what everybody had been looking for and whan it was accomplished by Mr Jeff Fitzherbert in an exhibition ride the crowd cheered to the echo. Hia ride was of a somewhat sensational character, for after doing gome wonderful buck-jumping in flip ring Acrobat scattered the crowd at tin entrance and bolted down the paddock. The night was dark, and it was feared that an accident would happen, but when Acrobat was brought back with young Fitzherbert still in the saddle there was great cheering. Another rider, Mr F. Meads, almost succeeded in riding'his mount,- Hustings Bob, for 'the required time'(GO seconds) for a stake of '£2, He had a lively time of it for ii seconds and then left the saddle, the horse making a great leap and sending him a complete somersault. The horses brought by Mr J. Green and Mr J. Sutherland were not hard to ride. The bullocks seemed to be more difficult to ride than on the first night. Mr J. Carr was the first to ride and the bullock failed to throw hjm. The £1 offered tyns promptly paid, and Mr Carr was loudly applauded. A youug man named Watt had a nasty fall and receiyed a bad cut on tho oar. Mr J. Howard, who was tho successful rider on tho first night, nearly repeated his performance and was congratulated on his effort.
