During a theatrical performance two horses fell 30ft through an aperture in the stage during a racing scene. The , riders were not seriously inju \,cl, hut one horse was killed. The Minister of Education was interviewed by a deputation from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Christchurch, and promised to do his best to have a vote put on the Estimates this year to subsidise the revenue of tho principal societies in the colony.
