Wellington, February 11. -The Department of Industries' and ■'Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London Oth:—The mutton market is dull and there is limited demand for all '•qualities. Very few really prime carcases of mutton have boon marketed lately. -There is no cliange to report in prices. Lamb is quiet and very unsettled on •account of conflicting cables regarding ■the dry season now prevailing. Australian lamb is in largo supply and of good quality. This season’s Few Zealand lamb is quoted at Old for Canterbury 1 ■ brands, and other than Canterbury I brands 55d per lb. ’ } There is a better demand for beef. I There is a largo supply of chilled beef on / hand of irregular quality. The average ! jprice of New Zealand beef is Kid and 2i,'d Tor hindquarters and forequarters respectively. The butter market is overstocked and •depressed. Some holders of butter are holding back expecting juices to go lower. Ketailers are catering for the shilling trade which affects tiro market. The average price of choicest N.Z. butter to-day is 103 s per owt; Australian, 08s Danish, 114 s; Argentine, 101 s. The cheese market is very firm and ■stock on hand moderate. There is general •■and active demand for N.Z. brands which -are quoted at 65s cwt. The hemp market is quiet but firm. • N.Z. hemp, good fair Wellington grade -on spot, per ton is A3l) IDs; January to March shipments, A3B 10s per ton; :

Manilla, fair current grade, on spot iff 2 ;per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet and prices are firm. The average price for "bright clean N.Z. cocksfoot seed, weighing 17Ibs per bushel, is 48s per owt. N.Z. short berried wheat ox granary, ■per quarter of 4961b5, is quoted 29s Gd on a firm market.

N.Z. short sparrow bill oats, ox granary, ,on spot, per quarter of 3841b5, is quoted at 255. N.Z. and Danish oats, ox granary, on the spot, per quarter of 300 lbs, is quoted at 18s. The stock on hand is small but the market is firm.

N.Z. beans, f.a.q. (old crop) per SOOlhs, are quoted at 325. The market is quiet, N.Z. partridge peas, per_sOtitis, are quoted at 40s. N.Z. blue pestS, per SOOlbs, .are quoted at 355. The market is firm!

The wool market is firm, and business tproapects are good. Current quotations lor Bradford tops arc: 36’s low crossbreds, 14id; 44’s medium crossbreds, 1b fid; 50’s half-breds, cls lOd ; sG’s .quarter-bred’s, 2s; 60’a merinos, 2s 3d.
