A TARANAKI DISCOVERY.

Valuable Pottery Clay. Press Association. New Plymouth, February 12. What appears an important discovery of clay lias been made on Smart Road farm, about three miles from New Plymouth. A specimen analysed by Professor Maclauriu, Government Analyst, contains 39 per cent silica, 33 alumina and Professor Maclaurin reports: “ Clay of excellent quality with exception of the iron, which is slightly high, (1.5 percent). Its composition is equal to that of the best Kaolins. If found in quantity it should prove of great value for pottery purposes.’’ A large seam has been exposed, and similar clay has been found a considerable distance away. It is overlaid by firstclass brick clay.
