POHANGINA COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting was held oa Saturday. Pretest: Crs E, W, Brown (chairman), D. Howie, H, Osborne. F. L. Jackson, H. W, Olhver, G H. PhillpcUs. Mr H. O. Hammond explained the cause of his absence and leave of absence was granted by the Council. The chairman reported that Mr Gordon had been engaged as assistant clerk at 10s a day to assist in preparing a thirds book. REPORTS. The Treasurer reported the following balances at the Bank ;—• General account: Hr., £lOll 15s; No. 1 Loan account, Cr., £417 12s 2d. The balance of the Riding accounts are : Awahou, Dr., £lOl 0s 9d ; Coal Greek, £l9O 15s Id ; Mangaono, Cr., £2lO 19s 4d ; Mangapikopiko, Cr., £ll 18s Gd; Pchangina, Dr., £55 17s Sd ; Tamaki, Dr., £317 Us ; Umutoi, Dr„ £829 15a 2d. During the month I have received £9G for heavy traffic licenses. Total cash in hand, £147 6s 103 out of £4901 Gs -id ; general rates, £4705 12s Id ; outstanding £195 14s 4d, made up as follows : Awahou, £l2 5s 9d ; Mangaone, £9 2s 3d; Mangapiko, £B9 19s lid, Pohangina, £2 IGs 8d and Umutoi £Bl 9s 9d. Summonses were issued on tbe Ist insfc. for rates outstanding and further summonses will be taken immediately for ail small amounts and the balances of a few paid on account. The amount to be passed for payment to day is £794 9s Gd. The overseer reported ;—I have been unajbie to procure men and drays to do the work authorised in Awahou riding. The metalling contract on Valley read will be completed in a few days. I would recommend that tenders be called for delivery of GOO cubic yards of metal for repairs on Valley road between Ramnai Hotel and top of Currie’s hill, and time tenders close for the work a fortnight hence. The metalling contract in Mangapikopiko riding has been completed in a satisfactory manner. Three men are at work repairing Main Ridge road. The dram oa the road has been completed, The metalling contract on Delaware Fiat is complete, and as soon ar tbo stones are broken the drain ermplained of by Mr Handley will be cleaned out. A groin has been placed at Digger’s creek. Weather permitting, the metalling contract at Piripiri will bo complete in a few days. I would recommend that 40 loads of motel bo put on top end of Table Flat road. I csjr for instructions with regard to expenditure of heavy traffic tax. CORRESPONDENCE.
From Khvitea Council, Baking for all documents in connection with Ferry reserve 108. From H. S. Fiizberbort, solicitor, re costs rs Donald and McMillan.
From Fraser and Bon, asking for rent of cottage let to roadmanPayment to be made. From Alfred Wycherley, asking permission io stop work on his metalling job for a fortnight. Labor was scarce, and he wished to harvest some grass sred,—Referred to engineer. From Oroua County Council, stating that Treasury had not given a definite ready to the request for a loan of £s9S. —The clerk was directed to remind the Oroua Council that the Pohangma was paying interest 03 the ajmount, whereas the cost should fairly fall on tnq Oroua Council.
From P. Hanlon, stating that ha had paid £4B for about six months carting, having paid two taxes, and had carted but about three months in each year.—No cotton taken. From H. J. Wylde, forwarding plan?, tracings, etc., o£ road deviation through section 2, block VL, Pohangina Survey District.
From Kivzitea Council, for payment of half sharo of £8 9s 6d, cost of maintenance Apiti bridge road, £lO on Terraco read, and £9 Ss annual share of interest on loan of £1904 7s 6d.—Deferred till next mooting. Prom Govornmeni Valuation Department, with account for £75, for revising valuation roll.—Cr F. L, J&ek.ou said if the amount was part co?t it was excessive. The whole valuation could ha done for that sum. The chairman said a valuation had been made for the Council for £2-5, but since the Government had taken over the work the cost bad been rising. Cr Phillpots said the highest sum previously paid had been £35 17s Sd.—Account to be inquired into.

tho ■resignation of Cr Phillpotts be accepted with regret and that the .Council put on record its appreciation of Ids services during the past seven years, during four of which he occupied tho chair and during which the Folia ngiua bridge was erected. The chairman said Mr Phillpotts had given a great deal of lime and trouble to the work of the Council, and they should all join in thanking him for work done in the public cause. He understood the cause of resignation was the intention of going on a trip to England. They all wished him a pleasant time. Cr Howie said the Tamaki Hiding would not be able to get a representative to take so much interest in the work. He was sorry Mr Phillpotts
was leaving. Cr Jackson saidCr Phillpotts had been councillor for the Hiding in which lie had most interest, anil lie could say that Mr Phillpotts’ work was fully appreciated by the ratepayers. He had given endless time to his duties. He hoped Mr Phillpotts would return imbued with the best ideas of the London Conned and again take up the work. The motion was then carried unanimously. ’’
Cr Phillpotts briefly thanked the Council for the motion and said he liked the work.
It was [resolved that an election of a councillor for the Tamaki Hiding be held at Komako school house on .March fith. That the tender of .Mr H. A. Dick for metalling 100 yards ApitiNorsewood road at Is Sid, Apiti township, and main road 100 yards at 2s (id be accepted.
That tenders be called for delivery of COO yards of metal for repairs on galley Hoad.
