Wanganui Wool, Skin, Hide and Tallow Sales.
Messrs Johnston A Co. report:—We offered a fairly large catalogue of wool, skins, hides and tallow at our monthly sale. Owing to advice from London buyers, anticipating a drop in ftool, bidding for this lino was listless, and we had to pass in several lots. Wa only quitted scleral i'adges and bag lots. Sneepskins were also a shade •easier. Hides sold at last rates. Wo ■quote—Wool: Crossbred 7i-d to 8-}d, crutchings o ld, dead wool 7d, lambs Bd, locks and pieces 2j.d to 3td. Skins : Coarse crossbred 7'i d to Sid, good lambskins BJ t dto B|d, inferior Bd, dead and broken Cd to 6:|d, green 2s XOd to ss, bare pelts sld to 7d, salted pelts 2s 5d to 3s 3d, green 2s 9d to 2s lid, woolly hoggets 6?d. Tallow: Casks £23 10s to £24105, tins 17s fid, fat 13s Gd. Hides; A good lino of butchers’ ox sold for 30s fid each (equal toCJd per lb), light ox 5Jd to 6d, butcher’s cows o?d to Gfd, light cows 44d, cows cut and slippy 3|d to old, weaners 4"vd to old, cut do 3,;d, yearlings old, calfskins (5.;-d, cut and slippy 2.1 d to old. Loan & Mercantile report: Wc held our usual monthly sale yesterday and submitted a catalogue of CO bales and S 3 bags wool, 1200 sheepskins, 400 hides, 17 casks tallow, etc., to a good average attendance of buyers. Compared with values ruling at last sale there was very little difference in the prices offered for skins and hides, but | in the case of wool we found it necessary to pass in several lines on account ol buyers' ideas cf values not approaching our own. We quote—Coarse crossbred larMjs 7"A to Oil, dead wool 7Jcl to fid, crutchings 4d to Old, pieces and ’locks 34d to old. Skins : Fine crossbred Od, medium Sldto 8?d, iambs 74d to S:(d, dead and broken 61 d to 7d, dead hoggets 6£d, super dead|7vd, pelts 5d to,Old, butchers’ cio 6r(d to 71d, inferior dead and broken 4dd to s;,'d. Hides : Ox (501 b average weights) 6.1 d, smaller of dto Ofd, cowGi-d. Wc had no prime heavy weight ox or cow hides offering. Yearlings scl to Gd, calfskins C;,‘d to 7d, cut and slippy 3-jd to s)d. Tallow : Casks (in shipping condition) £25 per ton, tin (inferior quality) IGs per cwt. Cowtails Is 4d.

'GrrsViicnvEcir, February 6. At Addington live stock market there was an exceptionally heavy yarding of all classes of sheep and fat cattle and fair entries of other stock. Store sheep showed a considerable drop m price, especially lambs. ■ Prime freezing lambs were firm, competition being rendered more keen by the presence of Mr McCullough, John Cock and Co.’buyer, from Melbourne, who was here last year. Fat sheep sold well, ewes being rather firmer. Except for very prime sorts prices of f&t cattle were easier ia consequence of a very heavy yarding. Pigs of all classes sold well. Store and dairy cuttle were dull of sale.
Store Sheep.—The shortage of feed caused heavy entry of store sheep, the [ r hulk being lambs and wethers, and there was a considerable decline iu prices all round, backward lambs selling at very Low rates. All classes sold well. Veal calves made 3s to 15s - for small and up to 3os for well finished sorts. There was a full entry of dairy cows of a poor class, and they met with a [ dull sale at £3 to £G 15s. Messrs Abraham and Williams report on their Palmerston and Marten sales as follows; At Palmerston on Thursday we hud an entry of over 4000 sheep. All classes met a good demand and a clearance was made at satisfacr tory prices. Cattle were in short supply and prices showed an improvement on recent sales. Quotations ; 2-tooth Eorancy ewes 17s 7d ,to ISs id, f.ra ewes 12s Cd to Pis Id, others 9s to 11s lid, woolly lambs 11s lOd, shorn lambs Os 3d to lus 7d, cull iambs 5s Od to 7s 4d, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 14s to 14s 9d, fat 2-tooth wethers 16s, 18-month steers 38s CA to £2 Is, yearling steers 27s (id to 30s, IS-month and 2-year heifers 25s Gd to 31s, 21-year steers £3 4s, good weaners I ts Cd. others 4s to Bs, cows and calves 32s Gd, bulls 255. At Martou on Thursday wo had a good yarding of sheep, which, in most cases, sold readily under the hammer. A keen demand existed for all classes of lambs. Wo quote: Lambs 7s Id to 9s 9d, cull lambs 5s Sd to Cs, empty ewes 10s Cd, 4 and G-tooth ewes 17s, 2- tooth, owes 16s 3d, 2-looth wetners 15s 3d, 4 and G-tooth wethers I6s Id, fat ewes 13s 4a, weanor pigs 13s to 20s, Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report having held their usual weekly sale on the 7th inst. Futries comprised small yarding of cuttle, but a fair number of sheep, principally lambs, suitable for rape. All the sheep, except one pen of wethers, were sold, also most of the cattle. Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows; At Hiinatangi on Monday we had a good yarding of both sheep and cattle.
