OHINGAITI SPORTS.

During the past years the Ohingaiti sports enthusiasts have experienced very bad weather for their annual j meetings. The a heavy snowstorm took place, the ground being i covered with snow, and last year a j drenching rain all day was experienced, j while yesterday the gathering was j held undermost adverse circumstances. Light showers of rain fell in the morning, and ns the day wore on a steady "downpour set in, which completely spoiled the success of the r sports. The club only wanted a tine day and a record meeting would have resulted. The attractive programme j was instrumental in drawing a large j number of competitors, and caCj.' event j was well contested. Several ot the , fastest sprinters of the colony we.rc j present, including two prominent runners from Dunedin —J. Sluvas and 1 >T; L. Colvin. The horse jumping and pony races, as usual, were the principal attraction of the day, and some first-class racing and jumping was witnessed. Great praise is due to the hard-working officials for tbs manner in which they carried out their duties under such unpleasant circumstances. Special mention must be made of the courteous secretary (Mr A. J. Trcvena) and the conductor of sports (Mr A. Gower). Mr E. Linton, the newlyappointed starter, gave an exemplification of his efficiency, and the judges —Messrs T. Me Alley and J. Grice (running events) and L. (Sinclair and J. Gcorgotti (horse events) —gave entire satisfaction. The ground was in a slippery condition, but fortunately the day passed off without any serious mishap. Eesnlts : Maiden, lofiyds.—F. Wrestling on Horseback: Six competitors entered for this event-, and provided much amusement lor the spectators. The three placed men, T. Smith, E. W. Howie and W. Hammond, were so evenly matched that they eventually decided to divide the stake.
