High Commissioner’s Report. Light Canterbury mutton is scarce an I at4;,‘d; heavy, did; North Island (light) 4jd, heavy 4 id. Lamb is quiet, as buyers are not prepared to make forward purchases at present prices. The market is very unsettled on account of contradictory reports which are current regarding the probability of drought aitecting New ■ j Zealand shipments. The nominal I price of N.Z. lamb is Gd per lb ; Australian. 4’.d. j Beef is dull. Hinds 3id, fores2jd. Butter is steady, with fair demand for better grades. N.Z. butter is giving satisfaction to buyers, and the choicest brands are quoted at 10 Is per owl; Australian 995, Danish Ills. Cheese is firm with a upward tendency and good demand at 04s for N.Z. manufacture. j Hemp is quiet but firm, and good j business has been done. Good fair | grade on spot is X' !"; January-March shipments £39; fair current Manila ’ £43. There is better demand for cocksfoot seed. Bright dressed 171bs to bushel is at 4Ss per ewt.
