RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was held on Saturday. Present: Crs. Beckett (Chairman), McGregor, Lethbridge, Fraser, Simpson, Georgetti, Duncan, Canton, and Morrison. Correspondence was dealt with as follows: — From Treasury, advice of payment of grants—Mangamahoe-Mataroa £339 Is Id, and Mangaone-Mataroa £505. | From Telegraph Department, asking i that another name than Waitaka bo j substituted for telephone bureau at G. V. Lethbridge’s. From Telegraph Department, stating ; that a tender has been accepted for a : tri-weekly mail service between Mata- ; roa, Tiriraukawa, and Wairepu. j From Loads Department, authority i for grant ot £25 Mangaone-Mataroa j road repairs, also Mangamahoe-Mata- j roa road repairs; declaring Puhirua : road south to be a county road; dc- ; daring road through lot 24 of Block 8, Eangitikei district; asking that applications for payment of Government grants bo sent in not later than 15th March.
From Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking in whom closed roads in Heaton Park estate shall vest.
From same, stating that question of fencing Silverhopa Scenery Reserve has been referred to the Undersecretary for Crown Lands. From Valuer-General, asking that Council appoint one member of Assessment Court.—The Chairman said that he had asked Mr J. AV. Marshall to act, and ho agreed to do so. Resolved (Crs. McGregor-Duncan) that Mr Marshall be appointed the Council’s assessor.
From Department of Agriculture, forwarding slaughtering license for Messrs Voyce and Parker. From Fullertou-Smith and Miles, stating that Brandon Hall gravel reserves have been vested in Council, and asking payment for same.—Payment made of £25.
From A. Cruiekshanks, asking lease of reserve on Eaweka road near his property. —Eesolved (ChairmanCr. Duncan) that applicant be informed that Mr Watson has a moral claim to the section, and that it be leased to the latter at a rental of 20s per annum.
From K. AY. Dalryraple, asking that Council permit stock to graze on roads. ■ —Permission silready granted to eettlers to graze stock. From G. Wheeler, asking that a Joan of £2OO be raised early after March for the Rangitano road. —liesolved that Mr Wheeler be informed that formation work will be let, probably at next Council meeting, and the loan for metading will bo pushed pn at once.
From John Hammond, asking that contractor be given notice to complete his contract for metalling on the Eangitira road.—Eesolved that Mr Hammond be informed the contractor has been given notice to complete contract before 31st or else contract will {je cancelled. Prom F. O’Neill, objecting to a road being taken through his property in the Mangawhero survey district. —No action taken in the matter at present. From F. E. B. Lovelock, stating ho is in favour of loan of £IOOO for Murimotu road and west road. From Jos. Green, objecting to the tram line on Pukenana road.- —liesolved (Cr. Canton-Chairman) that Mr jGrccn be informed that the portion of the road’of which he complains is not jjnder the control of the Council, but the Qoyernnjent, to whom he must apply. From, Mrs Barry, Marton, asking Council to continue payment of 5s a week for rent of house in Marton. — Eesolved (Crs. McGregor—Simpson) pkat rent of 5s a week be paid during pleasure of Council. From Department of Roads, agreeing to make a grant of £l5O for AloaValley road on condition that Council take over the road.—Council accepts offer. From a contractor, asking £8 Bs pjet-ra on Ins Moawbango A alley south metalling contract. —Eesolved Hurt matter be left in Air Hair’s hands with a view to settlement. From G. Green and others, complaining of slatp of Alakohine \ .b. Road. —Resolved (Crs Camon-Duncan) that application be agreed to, and work will be put in hand at once. From T. P. Finn, claiming on behalf of John Murphy a steer alleged to have been bought by him at a sale at Mangaweka pound.—Resolved (Crs. Georgetti-Duncan) that Mr Finn be informed that the beast was sold for 2s and a proper return made to the Clerk of the Council.
From Inspector of Roads Department, complaining of damage to protective fencing on Taibape-AA aiouru road by Council’s contractors. —Air Mair to make inquiries. From Puma Road Board, with reference to roadman’s cattle on road.— Eesolved (Chairman Cr. Duncan) That this Council is willing to allow the roadman for Puma Road Board the same privilege as granted to our roadmen—that he may graze the one horse he actually uses in connection with his work.
From E. Aid worth, asking for a re fund of 5s for impounding fees.—

Air Alair’s report was dealt with as follows Resolved (Chairman Cr. McGregor) That the Engineer’s action in accepting Air Phillips’ tender of £9-11 10s for installing Hiwera and Moawh ango A’ulley roads be confirmed. That (Chairman— Cr. Simpson), Air E. Allen be notified that unless he continues work on contracts 73 and S 3 within seven days, the contracts will be cancelled and fresh tenders called lor the work. That (Crs. Canton—Georgetti) the Government be requested to complete the removal of slips and widening on Mangaweka—To Ivapua road vrom Makoliine bridge to Raweka Junction. Air Thoms’ report was dealt with as follows : Eesolved —
That (Chairman— Cr Fraser) 10 per cent additional (£7O) be raised on Brandon Hall road for metalling. That (Cr. Fraser—Chairman) Air Richards be informed that grade on Eead'S road will be reduced to 1 in 14 (estimated cost £25) if the settlers will subscribe half the money.
That (Chairman —Cr. McGregor), provided settlors sign a consent to raise ft loan to complete the work on Alakohau road, to have a separate rate placed on their properties, Council will proceed with the expenditure of £lO9 loan money and £IOO grant from general account.
Cr. Georgetti brought up the matter of improvimg Alataroa road nt the Mangaweka end and asked that Council grant a small sum to assist in tho work. It was resolved —
That (Crs. Georgetti Alorrison) Council grant £3B out of General Account towards taking off sharp corners at south end of road.
Tljat (Chairman —Cr. Duncan) tonden lie called for metalling ‘2D chains of Warring road. That (Cr*. McGregor—Duncan)) the arrangement made by Iso Chairman nith .Mr F. Y. Lethbridge for tubing W hare rot road through his property he agreod to. That (Chairman—Gf. Fraser; a sum not exceeding £l2O be voted out of the General Account towards acquiring, etc,, Wimraroa road. Mr L. J. Wilde waited on Council in reference to road through -Mr Clark » (late Findlay’*) bridle track to hern Flats.—The Clerk to make enquiries and furnish particulars. The tender of J. Smith was accepted lor metalling 44 chain on Union line. The Treasurer's report showed that rate* collected since last meeting amounted to £7035 3s 4d and miscellaaeous amounts brought total receipts to £7804 Is Bd, leaving a credit balance at Bank of £3574 IslOd. After payment* amounting to £5324 los .id were made a debit of £lOls I3s 4d would be gbown.
