Tho Kingston eoiTcspouclent of ! tho Tribune states that as a result of tho earthquake the disbanding of the West India Regiment has been suspended, and that the barracks, which were destroyed, will bo rebuilt shortly. London, February 2. Sir Alfred .Jones, who lias returned from Jamaica, says he thought It war, not right for American troops to land at Kingston. He says Hir J. A. Gw otter, ham worked splendidly. Mr Hall Caine states that Admiral Davis told him that ho landed the troops without the exchange of courtesies as an act of humanity. lie sent two officers to inform Sir J. A. Ssvcttenham. Tho Washington correspondent of the Times states that President lloosovc-lt convoyed to Metcalf his approv.al of Admiral Davis’s action, and A reteal f has written Admiral Davis a i fiber of commendation.
