RANGIWAHIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The entertainment in aid of the Tennis Club came off. in the Kangiwahia Hall on Tuesday, 2'Jih inst. The promoters departed from the usual form of cnlerl.iintmmt, the social ai)d dance, and the innovation proved .1:1 undoubted success. In the afternoon (he lady members of the. elub supplied afternoon tea in the hail, and as the stock sale had brought a large number of visitors into Kangiwahia the tea rooms did quite a respectable trade. The evening Mas devoted to music, dancing, guessing competitions and numerous side shows, and the large audience present appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Among the many attractions the mod i) ipuHr were the cake guessing eompo'itbn, for a cake provided by Mrs Jl. Craig, the ?oose j guessing for two geese donated by Messrs Guthrie Bros., football kicking competition, and a novel ring-throwing competition which was ably managed by Mr 11. Moore. Miss Fdney conducted the gipsy fortune telling department and was kept busy the whole; evening, while the happy manner in ; which she hit elf the peculiar foibles and weaknesses of her clients caused | much amusement. The ladies' nail- 1 driving competition attracted a large ' entry and was w on by Miss Eh'cgcr and in the bean guessing Mrs Brewster succeeded in picking the exact number. Mr F. E. Martin was the lucky winner of the cake. Mrs Turner and Miss McKean won the geese and Mr A. Boshier proved the winner of the men's apronrnaking competition. The flower stall, in charge of Mr- Say well and her assistants, also added materially to the evening's receipts and Mr Faukhauser successfully managed the bran tub. At intervals during the evening songs were L T iven by Mrs Gocdbelicro. Miss Edney, Messrs F. Martin and K. Smith, and Mrs Turner and Miss Jameson played an overture. The accompaniments were nicely played by Miss May McKen/.ic who also, with Mrs Goodbehere, Miss Jameson and Messrs Ireland and O'Dwyer, kindly supplied the music for the dances. Financially the ! entertainment was also a success and j will result in clearing off the. debt on j the Tennis Court. The residents of , Ilangiwahia and district are nothing if j not public-spirited and the fact that they can put down an asphalt court at a cost of about £lO and pay for it in one season, speaks volitm.es for their generosity and unanimity. |
