EYEE OAEBIEP frtm a. sho: "CHEAPSIDE," FEILD I H G. TAX ON TITLES. The Chamber of Deputies has been busy discussing and voting new taxes in connection with the Budget. After voting a tax of 83 per annum on upright and lGs per annum on grand pianos, a 3 well as a tax of £i per annum on all kinds of hand organs, the Chamber discussed a proposal to tax the transmission of titles of nobility when inherited, as well as a tax on all persons now using titles in France. A member brought forward an amendment to the effect that all persons bearing titles of nobility, and who in five years should not have paid the tax, should be deprived of their right to use such a title. The | Baron do Castelnau said that ho never used his title, but that ho was curious to know how the tax-collector would distinguish between the real titles and the self-made titles which arc now so common. Tho President, speaking for the Government, said that the tax would be .levied on all the titles of the old monarchical nobility that were still in use, and also on the titles conferred by Napoleon I. and Napoleon 111. Present users of titles would be required to prove their right to make use of such title?. It was explained that the tax would only be levied on those titles which were known to be genuine. The proposal was adopted, and circulars will be sent out to all the Mayors of France requesting them to send in a list of persons in their districts bearing titles. , BEAUTIFUL MlHl fc% CAPILU KAISi TORIC. &1 Goe3 r'ah' down Into tho tiny _.. t?l nalr bw'bs, giving them lifo i" KfeivSt*:? sol£± by 2!!
