Per Press Association. Weuj.n-iitox, Janury 1. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute is being held to-day. Tiie President's report stated that tue Government had decided to publish a work on JN'eiv Zealand uiollusca, and had appointed Mr 11. iSuter editor. The Jiutton Memorial Committee recommended that the fund should not be closed, also that, throe trustees be appointed to control the funds ; that tlio trustees be authorised to procure a bronze medal at a cost not to exceed J.'lOO, to be known a"s the Jiutton Medal, and that the balance of the fund be invested and the interest used for the furtherance of the objects of the fund ; that the Jiutton Medal be awarded, from time to time to persons who have made some notable contribution in connection with zoology, botany, or geology ; that a grant be made from the accrued interest from time to time to persons or committees who require assistance in prosecuting research. The report stands over for consideration.
