4t .■ — : ;o: • . . Fern Flats v. Parewanul Saturday at Pern Flats, on tke property ot Mr A. E. Bryce, two interesting polo matches took place between teams representing A. and B. of above. The ground was in fairly good order, but was rather dusty. The game between the B. teams was played first. The teams were : Barewanui —J. McKeivie, Alic Amon, Bert Amon, S. McKenzie. Pern Flats—Gould, A. Smith, B. Smith and A. E. Bryce.- At the outset Parewanui forced the play and two goals were scored in quick succession by J, MeKclvie and S. McKenzie. During the three minutes overtime in the first spell Fern Flats improved their play and scored their * t only goal in the match. The visitors I repeated their performance m the j second spell, addin;:; two more goals J which were hit by S. McKenzie and | Bert Amon. Play was non' fast ami open and A. E. Bryce was putiing in some great work. The third spell saw another goal added in fav. nr of Fare- : wanui, S. McKenzie makur' the successful hit and in the next A. Anion was responsible for some well directed shots, his last drive securing a pretty goal. Another score was added before the fourth spell closed, giving the j visitors a substantial lead. Len hieKelvie got in some well-directed shots and carried play to dangerous territory but a great hit by A. Cameron carried play to the other end where H. Cameron and J. Coleman we re prominent, the latter making one of the biggest hits of the day. There was no score in the fourth spell. The llflh spell opened with some first class play between the Camerons and Jlangi and L. McKelvie. Fern Flats broke away with a strong attack hut K. Scott saved splendidly. The home team kept up the attack hut found Parewanui back too hard to pass. At the end of flic fifth spell Coleman shot a nice goal and the score stood at 3—l. Immediately after the opening of the final spell Gordon McKenzi. < started a rush and went right through his field but was not backed up and a behind resulted. Coon after a good opening was made by L. AJckelvie and he sent the ball along in tine style hut over-ran badly. Fern Flats then took command of the play and J. Coleman, going at a great pace, shot a splendid goal. This success was added to by 11. Westland who iut the fifth and final goal by a capital drive. Mr -V. 11. Bryce refereed. Air David Scott, in a neat speech, thanked the ladies for the hospitable manner in which the visitors had been entertained and called for three cheers which were lustily given.
