Press Association. Wellington, January 21. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Patrick Francis Brosnahan was com mittod for trial on a charge of having extorted money from Edgar Hyde by threats. In the criminal proceedings, Alexander Wait Purvis, ex-secretary of the Wellington Benevolent Trustees, wgs charged before the Stipendiary Magistrate to-day with tho theft of various sums of money from the trustees. David Robertson, ex-chairman of the Board, said Purvis had no authority to use the funds of the trustees to discharge his private accounts. One of the trustees held £l5O received from Purvis to cover the amount of the deficiency. The alleged defalcations were £l3O. A. T. Clarke, accountant, repeated the evidence given by him in the case against Ingram of Te Aro House. The transfer from the trustees’ account to Purvis’ account were not all included in tho present charges. Detective Williams, who arrested Purvis, said the latter remarked: “ Yes, I knew it was coming.” “I am not alone in this.” '• I am the tool of tho Te Aro House lot.”
Accused then pleaded guilty and was committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed.
