MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A special nieclmg of ah-jve was held last evening. Present: Liu- Mayor (Mr J. F. Steely). Lrs. Head. Lutlo. Sutcliffe. Grove, McEl.lowney, and Donunctt. The application of Messrs Zajonskowski Bros, for extension of water supply to the eastern side of Tutnenui stream, was granted. The conditions for Opera House manager wore rend. The Mayor recommended that commission on receipts from Opera House bo allowed in addition to a fixed salary. The Clerk reported that the revenue amounted to about £2OO for the last financial year. It was decided to fix the custodian’s salary at £25 per year and allow Hyper cent commission on gross takings. Mr A. W. Avery was appointed to collect vehicle license fees. Cr. Grove was of opinion that drivers should be licensed instead of vehicles. The offer of A. W. Avery to collect dog tax for the ensuing year was no* eepted. Or. Sutcliffe wanted to make it compulsory for dogs to wear collars. A Wellington diver wrote offering his services for diving operations at the reservoir at £7 a day and expenses, with two men to assist.—Held over. Mr Smithies’ report on Marton ga* works and water supply were read, and consideration was deferred until next ordinary mooting. Cr. McEldowney was appointed to fill vacancies on sub-committees.-It was reported that the Borough water cart would arrive before the end of[tho month. Tim Mayor reported that the Clerk’s fidelity bond had boon completed.
