Tallow Sales. Pres* Association. —Copyright. London, January 17. At the tallow lales 909 casks were offered and 418 sold. Beef, medium, 83s 6d, other sorts unchanged. Woo) Sales. London, January 17. Wool. — 18,804 bales were offered. There was a large attendance and active competition, all sections of the trade bidding. Americans operated freely. Merino were in good demand and unchanged from closing prices of last ■eries. Crossbreds, a splendid selection, realised the highest December rates. Wool is animated and firm, and all sections are in operation. Americans are not paying the extreme December rate. Melbouene, January 17. Wool.—An excellent selection and keen competition. Greasy touched 17|d, crossbred 16Id, scoured 24|d. Sydney, January 16. Top sorts show a slightly easier tendency. Medium is firm; inferior is weaker. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following from their London house;—Wool market opened strong for all sorts. Occasional advance of 5 per cent. Good American demand. Wellington, January 17. The High Commissioner cables that the wool sales have begun with keen competition. Americans are buying largely. The market is firm and prices show an upward tendency in all classes. Stock Market. Per Press Association. Chbisichuech, January 16. At Addington to-day there was only n fair entry of stock, the numbers being much below those of the past few Bales, and there was a good attendance. Fat cattle sold barely up to last week’s rates. Fat lambs were without change, and there was very little demand for store shoep Fat sheep sold very well, ewes showing an improvement. Pig* were somewhat irregular, porker* and small sort* not being *o firm. There was a dull sale for store and dairy cattle. Store Sheep.—The yarding of store sheep, which was not a large one, was made up principally of lambs, and as there were few buyers operating the ' sale was a dull one. Fat Lambs. —Prime lambs made 13s to 16s 6d, a few heavier to 17* 7d, and light and unfurnished,Bs 6d to 12s 6d. Fat Sheep.—Prime wethers 18* to 31s lOd, lighter 14s 8d to 17s Bd. prime ewes 15a to 19s; medium 12s 6d to 14* 6d, aged 9s to 12s. Fat Cattle.—Steers made £5 10s to : ? £9, heifers £5 to £6 15s, cow* £4 to , £8 17s 6d, equal to 19s to 21s for , J trims and 16s to 18* for cow and in- - •nor per 1001 b. Messrs Abraham & Williams report i on their usual fortnightly sale at Tax* hape on Tuesday, When a very large number of battle and a fair number of sheep came forward. There was a good demand for -'•••'■p and the bulk of the entry changed hands. With the exception of one or two lots all the cattle were sold under the hammer. We quote — F.m. ewes 8s 4d, cull lambs 6s, fat and forward ewes 11s 9d, mixed 2 tooths (small) 12s 6d, lambs 8s Bd, 2 tooth wethers in wool 19s. Fat cows £3 los to £6, 2£ year steers £3 10s to £4, 2 years £2 17s, yearlings 3os to £4 , 6s, forward bullocks (good) £5 16s to ! £6 7», mired 12 to 15 months 30s to j 355. Frozen Meat. . Press Association. Auckland, January 16. The frozen meat shipped from Auckland for December month was rained at £26,888 a record for one month. Beef represented £21,000, lamb £4736, and mutton £ll4O. For the half-year ended December 31st, 2,968,7181bs of beef, 115,4041b* mutton and 237,0691 b were shipped from Auckland. NapibbJ January 17. The C. C. and D.
