SHEEP SCAB.
The following letter has been received by the secretary of the North Island Sheep Breeders’ Association from the National Sheep Breeders’ Association :—At the last meeting of the Council a resolution sent by yon through Mr W J. Birch, which he introduced at the International Conference held at Derby in June last re sheep scab, and which was remitted from the Conference to the Council for consideration, came up before that body at the November meeting this year, and after full discussion, in which it was felt that the expression of opinion your secretary had given was well worthy of the support of our members, the following resolution was passed, which was directed to be sent to the Board of Agriculture and also to certain members of Parliament, and it is hoped that it will have good effect: —“ That this Council, whilst fully recognising the efforts of the Government'ln the eradication of the sheep i scab, as exhibited by the public reports, which show a marked decrease, 1 is of the opinion that no means will be thoroughly satisfactory which do i not penalise the owner of a Hock of sheep suffering from scab, after j twelve months’ notice of the adoption of a system of penalties for this offence, and the infliction of very 1 heavy penalties for exposing diseased j sheep for sale.” The letter went on to state that owing to the persistent 3 efforts of the Board of Agriculture j sheep scab is largely decreasing, and it was their intention to persist until 3 it was completely eradicated.
