MARTON FIRE BRIGADE.
The Exhibition Trip.
Considerable interest is now being taken in £he forthcoming Fire Brigade Demonstration at Christchurch. Marton Brigade are sending a team of six men and it is satisfectory to note that capital performances are now being put up at practice work. For some weeks past the team has been inactive training and it is confidently anticipated the brigadesmen, who are to represent Marton at this important demonstration, will be capable or g>'mg a good account of themselves. Ihe team selected are Foreman M . McIndoe, Branchman W. Head, and I iremen W. Nuttall, W. Goodall, J. Richardson, and G. Ne-ilson. It will be seen that two representatives— Messrs Nuttall and Goodall—are new members of Marton Brigade, but it may not be generally known that these firemen have been in active service in other brigades and have a creditable list of performances. Their inclusion in the team complete a formidable combination and their work at Christchurch in March will be watched with interest. The poor pressure of water is a drawback to the team at practice, but an arrangement is to be entered into w ith Feilding Fire Brigade to use their mains for a few times. The Feilding water supply gives an excellent pressure. At a full meeting of the Briga e last evening, Captain Campbell pre- ' siding, it was decided to cover members of the team with a special insurance against accident in practice work. I e ordinary insurance risk has been paid during the past few years by Mr K. K Beckett, and appreciation of - his generosity w r as recorded on the minutes. Captain Campbell was elected delegate to the annual Conference at Chriitchurch. Business in connection with • the Brigade Social to take place at the Opera House on Tuesday nest, was gone through and satisfactory reports were made. The object of this entertainment is to raise funds towards cost of sending the team to Christchurch, so that liberal support should be accorded the ladies who arc undertaking the management of the social. The general arrangements are well in hand and the ladies are putting in a lot of time and energy to the preparations of the supper. Mr Bert Crozier’s orchestra has been secured and bright and sparkling dance music is therefore assured. The dance programme will be liberally interspersed with songs and musical items. A strong committee was appointed to meet at the Opera House on Monday evening when the floor will undergo a thorough preparation. Ladies who intend to assist with the 1 supper are asked to communicate with Mrs Goodall, the secretary. The provisions will be collected on Tuesday afternoon. 1
