OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of above was held yesterday. Present: Crs Wheeler (chairman) Vincent, Bowling and Mortenseu.
From Treasury stating that .£5450 has been remitted to credit of Council, for construction of roads in Hiwinui and Otangaki Ridings. From Harrison Bros, Baukawa, drawing attention to the low level bridge on Eaukawa road and asking that something may be done to it while the water is low. —Left in hands of Cr Bowling and Engineer. From S. J. Jansen, Newbury Line, complaining of unfair treatment by the ranger, who lias since admitted his mistake, re charge for impounding cow. — Banger to rectify mistake. From Treasury in reply to correspondence covering copy of special order striking special rate as security for proposed loan of .£525 for paying Council s contribution of cost of Pohangina bridge, requesting Council to state under what authority this loan is to he raised, and under what sub-section of Local Bodies Amendment Act, 1003, it is desired to raise it. An application from a man wishing to erect an advertisement board in the county was refused, as this sort of advertisement is considered unsightly and apt to fall down and make horses shy. The half-holiday was fixed for Wednesday. The Chairman wondered what would happen if vny other day was specified. Cr Vincent said there would be no Council. The Chairman hoped to see the day when the half-holiday would he on Saturday: LOWER GORGE BRIDGE. It was decided that tenders be invited for erection of Lower Gorge Bridge, tenders to bo opened at a meeting of Council on March Ist; also that plan and specifications bo on view at Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Auckland, and Council’s office at Feilding. In discussing the question of calling tenders for this, Cr Vincent considered that a month was ample time to give contractors. The Engineer thought a little more was required as he wanted to get the general conditions and liavc the best firms in the colony tender. The Treasurer’s report was as follows —General account,—Rates levied, £IO2O 12s fid; rates previously collected, £3124 4s Cd; collected from Bth Dec. to Jan. 7th, 1907, £685 13s 4d; uncollected rates’ £216 14s lOd. Interest account—Rates levied, £1423 4s 2d j previously collected, £ll2l 8s lOd; collected from December Bth to January 7th, £261 19s 8d ; uncollected, £39 15s Bd. Bank balance.— General account, Dr., £7BO 8s lid; Interest account, Cr,, £536 os 6p; total balances. Dr., £7BO 8s lid; Cr., £536 os Cd. Riding accounts—Mangaono, Dr. £29 7s; Rangitawa, Dr., £96 Is 10d; Raumanga, Cr,, £72 15s sd; Makino, Dr., £249 ISs 3d ; Hiwinui, Cr., £3O 12s (Id ; Otangaki, Dr., £478 11s Id. Resolved : That Engineer bo instructed to arrange with owners of the adjoining land to Grcenhow’s road, to fence same. That Mr Walsh bo granted permission to clear logs on Kimboltou road in front of his property. That application of Mr Duthio, Bunnythorpe, re water pipo across the road ho granted subject to Engineer’s supervision. That tenders for dog collars bo in by next meeting. T hat Engineer be instructed to call tenders as per schedule for fencing and forming Greenhow’s road, forming Kelvin Grove road, forming Wam’s deviation Spurr road, forming Penelope road, metalling and trimming Watershed road from Ulysses road to Midland road, two new culverts on Napier road, and one new culvert on Pohangina road.
