BULLS COURT.
(Bei-obe Me Stanford, S.M. (Friday, January 11th.)
Frank Ehodos, licensee of the Rangitikei Hotel, was charged with permitting drunkenness on his licensed premises on 22nd December. Sergeant Bowden appeared for the prosecution and Mr Cohen for defendant. The evidence went to show that one William Burnell had been drinking during the afternoon and later was proceeding homeward with his wife and daughter. He was carrying a demijohn of beer. This, the licensee said, was purchased by Burnell in the afternoon and was to be called for later. The Magistrate, however, ruled that the sale took place on Burnell’s calling the second time. Defendant was convicted and fined £lO and court costs amounting to £3 Us, and it was ordered that his license be endorsed. Leave to appeal was granted. The information against the same defendant for selling to an intoxicated person was withdrawn by leave of court.
In the case Police v. llastain, for whom Mr C. L. Harris appeared, defendant was charged with having assaulted one Wm/Burnell. After hearing considerable evidence the Magistrate said he was satisfied that Burnell had brought the trouble upon himself. He convicted and discharged defendant and ordered him to pay costs 10s and expenses of one witness £1 Is. Edward Bentley was charged with being on licensed premises after hours. It was practically proved that defendant was a servant at the time and the case was dismissed.
