CRICKET.
M.C.C. Team’s Tour. (Per Press Association]. Geeymouth, January 11. There was glorious weather for the opening day of the cricket match, West 1 Coast v, Marylebone Cricket Club, which was played this afternoon in the presence of a large crowd. The pitch was in splendid order, the matting making bowling very fast. The Englishmen played twelve men and the West Coast eighteen West Coast won the toss and elected to hat. Smith and Barlow taking the wickets and Curwen opening the bowling. The start was disastrous, oue wicket falling for two runs, two for four runs, and three for ten.
Turner joined Barlow, and brought the score to 51 before he retire 1. The sixth wicket fell at 57, and 73 was reached before the next wicket went. The undor-armers of Simpson-Hayward quite baffled the batters, while Harrison and Douglas did good work with the fast hall.
The fielding was excellent and not a mistake was made. The Coast team hatted well, and the score would have been considerably larger if the fielding had been at all faulty. The last w icket fell at five minutes to six o’clock for a total of 132, Scores WEST COAST.
