CRICKET.
Press Association. Gueymodth, January 10. The Marylcbone’s Cricket Club’s team arrived overland, and were welcomed here by the president, secretary, and other members of the West Coast Cricket Association. On the coach journey Branston met with a slight accident. He was sitting on the back seat of one of the coaches, and the driver, in whipping up the horses, accidentally cut Branston with the lash of the whip over the right eye, causing him considerable discomfort, but it is not expected it will prevent him taking part in the match to-morrow. The journey from Christchurch to the Bealey was done in fine weather, but rain was experienced from Bealey to Otira, and, consequently, the visitors did not see the magnificent scenery en route at its best, and only got a faint idea of the grandeur of Otira Gorge. Light but constant rain fell here for the greater portion of the day, but has now stopped, ant} the indications arc that line weather will be experienced for the opening of the match to l morrow afternoon.
There has been a spell of nearly three weeks of almost continuous fine hot weather,"and rain is not expected to have affected the pitch very much, as the ground was verydry, and absorbed all the moisture, ■
